Blessed Adolph Kolping

Blessed Adolph Kolping
1813 โ€“ 1865

Adolph Kolping (1813โ€“1865) was a German Catholic priest and social reformer who founded the Kolping Society in Cologne, Germany in 1849. Born into a poor family, he experienced firsthand the hardships faced by working people during the Industrial Revolution.

Kolping dedicated his life to improving the social and spiritual welfare of young craftsmen and workers. He believed that a strong family is the foundation of a healthy society, and that faith, education, and solidarity are the keys to human dignity.

By the time of his death in 1865, the Kolping Society had grown to over 400 local chapters with more than 24,000 members across Europe. Today, the organization bears his name in over 60 countries worldwide.

Adolph Kolping was beatified by Pope John Paul II on October 27, 1991, in recognition of his extraordinary service to the poor and working people. His feast day is celebrated on December 4.

"What is built on the family will endure; what lacks that foundation will fall."
